about mike

mike-about-selfportAs early as Mike can remember, he expressed himself through drawing. Cartoons on TV and Mad Magazine provided him with early inspiration.

At the age of eight, Mike discovered caricature when he made a drawing that “almost” looked like Richard Nixon. This skill was developed further in high school using fellow students and unknowing teachers as subjects.

Mike studied illustration at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, where he received a BFA with Distinction. During Mike’s formal education, he never forgot the creative spirit of his childhood, and his present style began to take shape.

His artistic focus is editorial, storytelling images with a humorous twist. Over the years, Mike has amassed a client list that includes Rolling Stone, Major League Baseball, Entertainment Weekly, Sports Illustrated, AT&T, Scholastic, TV Guide, Boys’ Life, and McGraw-Hill. His work has earned recognition from American Illustration, 3×3 International Illustration, and the Society of Illustrators, Los Angeles. Mike resides in Sacramento, California with his wife Shirley, a graphic designer, and their temperamental cat Mocha.
